The VR equipment consists of a headset/goggles and earphones (the "headgear"), biofeedback skin sensors, Psious's online platform containing over 70 psycho-educational and therapeutic 3D virtual environments, along with biofeedback tracking and reporting software. The headgear combined with the therapeutic environments create a Total Immersion Experience in which the brain responds as it would in a real-life scenario. The galvanic skin sensors record the client's automatic body responses, such as heart rate and skin perspiration (same as a lie-detector test) which are indicators of the nervous system's Stress Response and level of emotional arousal. In providing this real-time biofeedback, the therapist is able to track and report improvements in clients' progress over time. The client is able to gradually increase their ability to engage the nervous system's Relaxation Response.
