Counselling is for everyday people with everyday problems. Seeing a counsellor does not mean you are "crazy"; rather, you are a person who understands the value of receiving educated guidance from a professional.
Here are some general characteristics of counselling (as opposed to psychology or psychotherapy):
• It is concerned with “normal” problems rather than mental health problems.
• It is concerned with role functioning, with choices to be made, and with actions to be taken.
• It is more concerned with present events than with past events.
• It is more concerned with conscious, rational thinking than with unconscious functioning.
It is normal to feel a profound sense of grief when a loved one passes away, or even at the loss of a relationship, job, special item, or dream. I provide a safe, relaxed, and supportive atmosphere for you to explore and express all the varying, and sometimes confusing, emotions that come along with the grief process. As we begin to make sense of the loss and make meaning from it, you will uncover a new direction or renewed purpose in life, and the sad feelings will begin to subside. Rather than trying to forget the pain, you will be able to remember your loved one or your loss, with feelings of gratitude for the past and inspiration for the future as you move forward in life.
There are those of us who have been driven to the edge of madness, or death, even slipping over the edge, and somehow managed to pull ourselves back. Through our own strength, and by grace, we have survived and lived to tell about it. These are the shamans who have battled darkness and death, and learned what it takes to heal. What has occurred is a small death of some aspect of the ego/mind that identifies with the world of form, transformed into a realization of existence in the void.....vast and eternal. The experience of which has downloaded us with ancient wisdom and a fragment of Christ Consciousness - a connection with the Creator that can never be broken no matter what life brings. But it is not only once, for the most gifted healers experience these small deaths over and over again. To live as a shaman/healer, one must continuously die/surrender, sometimes getting ripped to shreds in the process, in order to be recapitulated and reborn.
